Maureen Lax is an artist and educator based out of Houston TX, working primarily in painting. She earned her BFA from the University of Houston in 2018, and has also studied at Minneapolis College of Art and Design and Studio-X Amman. Her work has been exhibited at local venues such as Project Row Houses, Lawndale Art Center, MATCH, and Art League Houston. She currently works as an administrator and painting instructor at Art League Houston, and as a tech for Mid America Arts Alliance.

Her recent work employs collaged and manipulated photographs as reference material to create surreal visions of the city of Houston and the personal and public spaces she inhabits within it. Fragmented images of highways, billboards, passing streetlights and signs - as well as intimate spaces like car interiors, bedrooms, and closets - form a candid yet dreamlike visual diary of everyday spaces.
